Notices to selectmen of arrival and departure of servants and other persons, 1758-1764.
Scope and Contents
This is a collection of memoranda sent to the town of Brookline by individual citizens informing the town of new additions to a household or if someone was from that citizen's household. These people are described to the "Select Men" as "Labouring man," "servant," "tenant," or with no specific role or employment noted.

Historical Note
These documents are evidence of the Colonial Massachusetts practice by a municipality of "warning out" a newcomer, who would potentially be a financial burden or moral threat to the community. This was essentially a personal reference letter informing the town leaders of their bona fides. Link to original town records scanned by Internet Archive in External Documents.
